I have a love of all things Free People, but my budget doesn’t. I used to work for an E-Bay power seller, and they had racks and racks of designer clothes! New, used, vintage, you name it, they had it, and I scored some pretty awesome finds through them.
Unfortunately with the Navy lifestyle, my family had to away. Now I do my “rummaging” online, finding things I want or need, for the best price possible. I recently came across this online boutique, with chic fashions that mimic the Free People style, for a lot less money!
The shop is called Ooh La Lou Boutique, and you can find them Here. All their pieces are so feminine and pretty, and perfect for the South Carolina heat! This Angel Lace Dress (below) is one of my absolute favorite pieces. It comes in a sky blue, or Amethyst, and is only $33.99!
I am not usually one to wear Maxi Dresses (because I am usually too tall for them), but I can’t deny that they have some beautiful ones. Most of them have a slit, which is more my style, than the traditional Maxi, with no slit. I also love that they have a fit and flare style. The dress pictured below is available in white or navy blue!
Ooh La Lou Boutique has a small assortment of shoes and jewelry, which does update occasionally. They are a small boutique, and still growing, which makes them a great find! Sometimes you need to find small online shops, to get more original pieces!
Click Here to check them out, and if you find something you love, use the code Lalou10 to get 10% off! When visiting their website, you can also sign up to receive e-mails from them, to stay up-to-date on their latest styles!
I became an officially Certified Makeup Artist in 2012, but my love for makeup goes back years. I have always loved bold colors, and out of the box looks! You can see some of the makeup looks I have done on photo shoots under my “portfolio” tab. This post, however, is just about some of my favorite makeup looks I have done on myself.
I have a very fond relationship with the Covergirl Aquasmooth Foundation. In most of these photos, that is what I am wearing. For less than $10 you can get a beautiful coverage, that can be worn lighter or heavier, depending on how you apply it. (Smaller foundation brush means heavier coverage).
Now that I am living in South Carolina, I find myself not wanting to wear any sort of foundation when I go out. It is just too hot, and no one wants to feel like their face is melting off in the heat. For those days, I like to wear Aveeno CC cream. It gives me the right amount of coverage and tint, but I don’t feel like I have anything on.
Both products can be found at Ulta, or any local drugstore.
This first look, is my most natural, and takes only 10 minutes. I used the Aveeno coverage, with a white eyeliner on the bottom to brighten my eyes (tired mom status), and a pretty pink eye shadow from Urban Decay.
I tend to use a lot of Nyx, Urban Decay, and Kat Von D right now. Urban Decay and Kat Von D have some beautiful, bold pigments, that get the job done. Nyx is really expanding their line, and you get some great quality for the money. This next look is using the Covergirl Foundation, and Urban Decay eye shadows.
When I say I love bold color, I mean it. When Urban Decay came out with their Electric Palette (right around my birthday), I had it on pre-order. It is still one of my favorite palettes to use! This next look I call my “Barbie” makeup.
To give you an idea of what my skin looks like before foundation, the next photo shows a before and after. I used the Covergirl foundation. I am very pale, with freckles, and some minor sun damage from my childhood days of not wearing sunscreen. I tend to get dark circles very easily when I don’t get enough sleep. You can thank my daughters for that one.
My absolute favorite time of the year is October. I love the Autumn, and try to do some crazy makeup looks for Halloween. I will miss being in New England for the Fall Foliage this year, but I look forwards to my first Halloween in the south!
This next look was using my airbrush machine, with some cool stencils I found at the craft store. I also re-created this look on my oldest daughter for her school Halloween party, and she won most creative in the Halloween contest! (She was a dead pirate).
I have so many looks that I have created over the years, but when I am looking for something colorful and easy to do, I revert to my sunrise eyes. The next look is the makeup I tend to wear most often, because it is quick and easy, and I like the way it looks.
Last, and certainly not least, is this next look. I created it last night, using the Nyx glitter, and the Urban Decay electric Palette. I wanted to do something fun and fierce. It is a little over the top, and the glitter was a little difficult to work with, but that’s how you learn!
I live in the Charleston, South Carolina area, and I am always willing to collaborate! Message me with any questions, or interest in the products I used.
