Take A Picture, It Lasts Longer!

You finally made it to the weekend!  If you are like most of the general population, then you will probably end up taking a picture of someone or something this weekend.  Everyone has a camera now-a-days, whether its an actual camera, a cell phone, tablet, or even a Polaroid camera!  All around us, everyday, people are taking pictures.

I tend to be one of those people that after the picture is taken, I upload it onto my social media accounts, and then delete it from my phone.  The chosen favorites are sometimes saved onto my laptop.  My husband keeps every photo he has ever taken, on his phone.  All of the photos of our daughters exist on these devices, and I couldn’t help but have a panic attack at this thought.  Once upon a time, my desktop crashed.  Through the help of a tech-savvy friend, I managed to salvage some of the baby photos of my first born, but alas, most were lost.  “Never again,” I vowed.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you this weeks App Saturday, FREE PRINTS!  I didn’t think I would be one for needing actual prints of my photos, not with technology now-a-days.  I don’t have the time to make scrap books, and I figured the photos would just lay around.  Well, yes and no.

When I had only one daughter, the thought of sitting down and making a scrap book seemed fun.  At the very end of my pregnancy I was diagnosed with preeclampsia, and put on bed rest until my due date.  I was only two weeks away, but it became a very long two weeks.  I was only allowed to get up to go the bathroom.  You can probably imagine my boredom, so I took up scrap-booking.  I’m glad I did, since this was before my desktop crashed and I lost so many of her baby photos.  Now-a-days, everything is on my social media accounts.  I have several Facebook albums dating back quite a few years!  Still, the idea of something happening to any of my devices, or Facebook suddenly crashing, sent my anxiety into overdrive.  (I should probably also mention that yes, I have been diagnosed with anxiety.  I realize that stressing over Facebook having a sudden catastrophic event isn’t exactly the norm.)  Moving on…

Free Prints is exactly what it says in the name.  FREE PRINTS.  You don’t need to subscribe to anything, and there’s no monthly free!  You simply download the App onto your device, and from there you can select the images you want printed, right from your social media accounts!

Is there a catch?  Well, you can’t please everyone, and nothing is ever truly “free.”  So here’s the deal:

  • You can get up to 1000 free prints per year, but you can only print 85 per month.  (If you want more, you can pay for more that month, or earn more by referring family and friends).
  • The size of the free prints is 4X6.  If you want a bigger size, then you are going to have to pay.
  • You do pay shipping.  It starts at $1.99, and goes up from there.  I paid just under $5 for my first order.  Not too bad in my opinion.  Free Prints states that you will never pay more than $9.99 for shipping.
  • Don’t expect amazing quality, if the images you are selecting are terrible quality.  You get what you pay for.  The Free Prints App will alert you if you choose a low quality image, but you can still print it anyways.

Still not sure?  Click Here for the Free Prints FAQ page.  I have ordered twice so far, and been very pleased both times with my photos.  I selected the standard size, because I wasn’t looking for anything fancy, and I wanted the images to fit into the photo albums I have.  My days of scrap-booking are long gone, since finding the time to blog can be hard enough!  Photo albums are easier to put together, and my girls love to lay on the floor and look at photos of themselves, and of each other.  It’s kind of nice to see them looking at something other than a television or tablet.

As my girls grow, and it comes time to switch out the photos in the picture frames, I now have the prints on hand!  I used to buy the special glossy paper for the printer and spend a fortune in ink to just do it myself at home.  Not anymore!

Maybe having actual prints isn’t for you, and that’s okay.  I am the type of person that refuses to use a kindle or tablet for reading.  I love the feeling of an actual book in my hand.  I wouldn’t go so far as to say I sniff old library books in my free time, but I don’t exactly hate the smell of books.  Having actual prints of my kids to hold and to look at gives me a sense of nostalgia.  Not too long ago that was the only way you could see the pictures you took.  Oh how the times have changed.

Liebster Award

It has been a crazy few weeks for me, and I have been meaning to get to my nomination for the Liebster Award.  I was nominated by the incredibly sweet Brittney!  You should check out her blog, Southern Lights Atlanta Nights.

Rules:

  1. Acknowledge the blogger who nominated you.
  2. Answer 11 questions from the blogger that nominated you.
  3. Nominate blogs!
  4. Give your nominees 11 questions to answer!

Brittney’s questions for me:

  1. Tea or Coffee?  Coffee, all the way.  I’ve tried to give tea a chance, I really have, but I just don’t like the taste.
  2. Favorite Genre of Music?  I don’t really have one.  Music is pretty subjective to my mood.  If I am relating to the lyrics, and I enjoy the beat, then I will listen to it.  Often times, when I am writing, I have Apocalyptica playing.
  3. Romantic Comedy’s or Action Films?  If I am going out to the movies with my husband for a date night, it is usually an action film.  But when the husband is at work, and the kids are in bed, and I will curl up with a romantic comedy.
  4. Cats or Dogs?  If I wasn’t allergic to them, I would probably be a cat person.  I have a small Yorkshire Terrier, and I love her.  I love small dogs, but big dogs intimidate me.
  5. What is your favorite fruit?  Tomatoes.  If you are one of those people that say tomatoes aren’t a fruit, then I’ll say chocolate covered strawberries.  Otherwise, I am really not a fruit person.  I prefer vegetables.
  6. Do you like feminine or masculine scents?  If we are talking about what I wear, feminine.  If I am standing next to a random person, I would probably rather smell a more masculine scent.  I love smelling the entire axe body collection!
  7. Where is your dream vacation?  This is pretty subjective to who I’m with.  If it were a trip without kids, I would love to go to Egypt.  I want to ride on the back of a camel, across the desert, and see the pyramids.
  8. Favorite Makeup Brand?  Nyx.  They are always coming out with amazing new products, in stunning colors!  The price is amazing, and the quality is great.
  9. Cake or Pie?  Pie.  There are so many different variations of pie, and it makes me think of my childhood when my mom would let me have apple pie for breakfast on cold autumn mornings.
  10. What is your favorite kind of ice cream?  Mint chocolate chip!
  11. What are your 3 favorite songs of all time?  I think my favorite songs will always change as I grow older, but I do return to Apoctalyptica’s album “Plays Metallica by Four Cellos” a lot.

Questions for my nominees:

  1. If you could go back in history and talk to anyone, who would it be?
  2. Favorite celebrity?
  3. Do you believe in ghosts?
  4. Do you have/want any children?
  5. If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you live?
  6. When you were little, what did you want to be when you grew up?
  7. Do you have any special talents?
  8. Who is your favorite band?
  9. What is your dream car?
  10. If you were to create a bucket list (things to do before you die), what would be number one?
  11. Do you have/want any tattoos?

My Nominees:

Maggie Simple Life

Fashion and Style Police

Beauty By Carolina

Fashion and Mash

Brooke Clarke

Thanks again Brittney for nominating me, and for following along on my blogging journey!  I hope you all enjoyed my answers to the questions!  Be sure to check out my nominees, they have some beautiful sites, with great posts!

Get Fit(Bit)!

I have a terrible habit of not sticking to any kind of workout routine.  Let’s face it, with three kids, it’s always go go go with them, but not so much for me.  On today’s App Saturday, I’m going to be talking about the FitBit App!

FitBit HR $129.99

I have the Fitbit HR, which I just recently started wearing again.  After the birth of my 3rd daughter, I took it off for awhile, and lost track of it when we moved.  Now that I have been re-united with my beloved Fitbit, I’m hoping to start working out more.  If I don’t, my Fitbit is going to tell me how lazy I’m being.  (Just to clarify, it’s not ACTUALLY going to tell you you’re being lazy.  You are just going to be able to look at your App and see for yourself that you haven’t exactly been productive).

First things first: You need a Fitbit.  It would make things easier.  You can technically have the app on your smart phone, without having a Fitbit tracker.  You won’t get the full benefits, but you will still be able to record basic stats like your steps, distance, and calories burned.

I originally bought my Fitbit at Best Buy, but most stores are carrying them now.  Or you can just order it right off sites like Amazon and Ebay.  There are several different options that Fitbit offers, so make sure to do your homework first.  I chose the HR (back in early 2016) because I really wanted to keep track of my heart rate, on top of everything else.

Got your Fitbit?  Okay, time for the App.  The App is able to be downloaded on 200+ devices, so don’t just think you need an Iphone (or a smartphone for that matter).   You can do this right on your laptop as well.  Your Fitbit will automatically connect with the App on your phone to show you your stats from the day, and when using a computer, you just log in, and plug in.  (Each Fitbit will come with directions, don’t worry.)  For complete details on Fitbit and their products offered you can head on over to their website by clicking here.

The Fitbit App has so many amazing features!  You can set your own personal daily goals, and Fitbit will track your progress throughout the day (just make sure you are actually wearing your Fitbit).  I don’t even need to check the App on my phone during the day for my progress, I can just look right at my watch!  My Fitbit tells me:

  • The time
  • Steps taken during the day
  • Current heart rate
  • Miles walked
  • Flights of stairs I’ve walked up
  • Calories burned

All of this, right on my wrist!  The App will track all off this, so I can see my trends over time.  The app will give me insight into my resting heart rate, what days were my most productive, and even how well I have been sleeping!  I think the sleep tracking is one of my favorites.  When I check the app in the morning, Fitbit is able to show me the hours I was asleep, when I was restless in my sleep, and when I had my best sleep!  It’s kind of nice to see just how well I slept, and if I actually got the sleep I needed.

Like I mentioned before, I bought my Fitbit in 2016.  Since then, Fitbit has really expanded and developed.  You can now link multiple trackers to the app!  I can wear my Fitbit HR during workouts, but if I wanted something more discreet during the day, I can get the Fitbit One.  The Fitbit One clips on easily to your belt, pocket, or even your bra!  I’m happy with my Fitbit HR for the moment, but I have had my eye on the Fitbit Aria!  It’s a wi-fi smart scale!  You can read more about it by clicking here.  Let’s just say, if you are looking to get in shape and lose weight, this scale is going to help you stay on track!

The Fitbit App has an amazing digital support system for those of you who need the help staying on track.  (Shyly raises my hand at the back of the classroom).  I have several friends who wear Fitbits, so I’m able to connect with them on the app, take part in challenges with them, and be motivated by their progress.  If you don’t feel like competing against your friends and family, you can take part in solo challenges, and set up your own personal goals.

On top of the counting steps, sleep tracking, and heart rate monitoring, the app also has an area where you can log your daily intake of food and water.  This is a great tool to help you meet your daily goal of drinking enough water, and also portion control!  My husband used his Fitbit HR for this purpose, and he was really surprised just how quickly you can reach 2000 calories based on what you are eating!  I tend to eat a lot of fish and chicken, while he is all about red meat, so dietary changes are a bit harder for him.

With the cooler months ahead of us, I’m looking forwards to getting back outside more with my girls and going on our walks.  Our first summer in the south hasn’t been too terrible, but it has been pretty rainy.  The Fitbit app has a great sister app called Fitstar, that shows you some mini workouts you can do at home, and tracks your progress through your Fitbit!  Fitbit really does have an amazing app, with great products, designed to keep you healthy and motivated!

Already have a Fitbit or something like it?  Tell me what you have, and why!  Any tips to staying motivated?  I would love to hear those too!  By the time my girls in bed, I usually just want to crawl in bed myself!
